Who are Oxley's Furniture NZ?

We are Martin and Pam Shead and we moved to New Zealand in 2004 from Derbyshire in England, where we had started and ran a successful company making bespoke furniture from recycled timber.
How the journey began
Taking the opportunity with 3 young children, to move to a country we had visited several times and loved, we sold our home and business in the UK and immigrated to New Zealand where we lived at Sandspit near Warkworth for 10 years.
As our children grew and eventually left the family home, we shifted to a lifestyle block near Kaiwaka on the edge of the beautiful Kaipara Harbour. We took with us some prized possessions, among which was our collection of outdoor garden furniture.
Why did we bring Oxley’s furniture to New Zealand?
Here in New Zealand dozens of friends and family have sat at our elegant outdoor furniture and often comment on its style and quality. When we explain that not only have we had it here in New Zealand for 16 years, but before that we owned it for 10 years in the UK, they really cant believe how well it’s aged. It has lasted so well due to the quality of materials used and the incredible craftsmanship that goes into making and hand finishing every piece of Oxley’s furniture.In comparison, we have always found that the vast majority of outdoor furniture in New Zealand was of a limited choice, poor quality and to be honest, pretty boring. We were sure that some people would rather invest in top quality furniture with style and character that is hand made and will last for generations.
So in a nutshell, thats why we started Oxley’s Furniture NZ and why we are so passionate about our furniture because quite simply, there’s nothing else to compare it with in New Zealand. Better still, Oxley’s furniture is sustainable as it is made from 100% recycled aluminium.

Warranty
All Oxley’s furniture comes with a comprehensive product warranty – a testament to years of manufacturing experience and the use of the best materials and techniques. Oxley’s extends a life long conditional warranty on the structural integrity of the furniture. In the unlikely event of the furniture failing structurally during normal domestic usage, the item would be replaced at the earliest opportunity.
The powder coat finish and cushions carry a warranty of 3 years but we expect them to last longer if care is taken to protect them from excessively harsh coastal or environmental conditions.
Production
Oxley’s furniture is made of a combination of high grade aluminium castings and profiles. For the castings the molten metal is poured into sand moulds which have been shaped to form the original hand carved design. The metal cools in its own time and the sand mould is then broken (each mould can only be used once) to extract the new casting.
Each casting is then worked by hand until it is ready to be welded to another casting or profile. The profiles can be formed to create different frame shapes. Each item of furniture is thus built up slowly using many individual pieces until finally it is complete. It then goes through the blast process where it is pelted at enormous velocity with manganese shot to remove any rough edges and create a physical key for the paint process. A chemical primer is applied and then the final colour. These last two stages are done in high temperature ovens. Each item is therefore unique. The quality of aluminium furniture you buy depends entirely on the amount of material that is used in the manufacture of the castings and the time and care taken to prepare it before painting
